The Pixel Mill Trainees 2020 (Community Management) Skills Development Programme

The Pixel Mill Trainees 2020 (Community Management) is the new entrant scheme for aspiring video game marketers. Northern Ireland Screen is looking for motivated individuals who want to develop a career in Northern Ireland’s thriving interactive sector. Can you create gifs that catch people’s attention? Do you like creating short video content that tells a story? Are you passionate about video games?

There is one place available for a Trainee Community Manager and we expect a high level of competition. If you gain a place as a The Pixel Mill Trainee, you will be given a 12-month contract (NMW/NLW) and have the opportunity to work on a range of video game projects. We will train and develop you for a career in the video game industry and you will be assigned a senior industry mentor. You will be expected to work closely with video game studios to support them in creating content and curating communities around their games.

Individuals applying should come from a creative media production or marketing background, but no specific academic qualifications are needed. However, you should be able demonstrate your ability and knowledge of how to create content/assets for online e.g gifs, stills or short videos. This can be done through professional experience, personal projects, being a streamer/content creator or an admin for online community forums. More importantly, we want people who are passionate about the video game industry, have the ability to generate ideas based on current events/seasonality and are enthusiastic about building online communities.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the professional video game development industry in Northern Ireland and gain hands-on experience in community management and marketing. This position would be of interest to those who want to pursue a career in community management, marketing or publishing in the video games Industry.

Funding and Publishing for Indie Games online workshops with The Pixel Mill

The Pixel Mill is hosting an online workshop and one-to-one sessions on funding and publishing for indie video game studios with the team from Robot Teddy. The focus of the workshop will be raising finance from game funds and publishers.

The workshop will take place on Thursday 18th June at 9:30am. The session will last 1 hr and 30 minutes (60 minutes of talks and 30mins Q&A section).

There will be an opportunity for studios to have one-to-one sessions with the Robot Teddy team to discuss individual projects and ask advice. These will be given assigned on a first come first serve basis.

The workshop will be held remotely.

Digital Catapult’s Augmentor launches today

Digital Catapult’s Augmentor has launched its 12 week acceleration programme for B2B immersive startups developing commercial solutions.

The programme has been designed to increase startups’ investment readiness and accelerate their
business growth. By partnering with the leading investment and industry experts, Augmentor equips
startups with the skills and connections so they can build strong, commercially viable solutions.

This open call is for companies who are early stage, have raised less than £500k in investment, and who are looking to develop innovative and commercially-focused applications of mixed, augmented and virtual reality technology.

Successful applicants will receive technical and business mentorship, access to expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, as well as the opportunity to pitch at an exclusive investor showcase. The programme aims to accelerate business adoption and investment in the immersive sector in the UK.
